Howard Stern has laid off a dozen employees at his New York production headquarters in preparation for a move to cut back from three SiriusXM shows per week to one when he returns to the air after Labor Day, according to a report in the New York Post.

The Page Six report, posted late Tuesday, didn't specify the company's total number of employees, but CI Technology Database — an Austin, Texas,  market research firm — estimates Stern's production company had employed an estimated 76 people before the layoffs.

A SiriusXM representative didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

According to the report, which cited unnamed sources, Stern told the affected employees by Zoom on Monday that his new one-day-a-week schedule wouldn't require as large a support staff.

When Stern announced his new three-year contract extension last December, he said: "I’m happy to announce that I’ve figured out a way to have it all: more free time and continuing to be on the radio. So, yes, we’re coming back for three years. Thanks to the good folks here at SiriusXM, I was able to create a more flexible schedule. ... So, we’ll be back!"

The announcement by Stern, who grew up in Roosevelt and Rockville Centre, came after much media speculation about his fate at the satellite broadcaster,

Since 2006, Stern's company has produced two channels for SiriusXM — Howard 100, home of "The Howard Stern Show"; and Howard 101, the omnibus channel that includes "The Wrap-Up Show" and repeats dating back years. According to the Page Six report, shows from the archive will also replace the dropped live programs.

Before making the then-unprecedented leap from terrestrial to satellite radio, Stern was one of New York's top on-air personalities, first at WNBC-AM/660 then at WXRK (K-Rock)/92.3.
