The musical companion to the HBO documentary "Billy Joel: And So It Goes" debuted over the weekend on Spotify, Apple Music and other streaming services.

The seven-hour, 155-track playlist was co-produced by Steve Cohen, Joel’s longtime creative director and an executive producer on the film. It debuted Saturday morning, following the Friday premiere of the second half the documentary.

For completists, the playlist, which includes unreleased material, live tracks and new mixes of old songs, may serve as Joel’s equivalent to The Beatles’ "Anthology" compilations. Among the rare or unheard gems: a live version of "The Stranger," performed at the Dallas radio station KZEW; a new mix of "My Journey’s End"; a new mix of a psych-pop track from Joel’s early band The Lost Souls; and two tracks from Attila, his short-lived hard-rock duo with drummer Jon Small, formerly of The Hassles. Interspersed between songs are snippets of interviews, session banter and promotional audio. There's also the live debut of "Scenes From an Italian Restaurant," recorded on May 6, 1977, at what is now LIU Post in Brookville.

Also included are massive hits such as "We Didn’t Start the Fire" and deep cuts like "Where’s the Orchestra?" Like the documentary, the playlist is split into two halves, here labeled Disc 1 and Disc 2.

Cohen promised to release more archival material in the future. "We uncovered a lot of unseen performance footage as well as restoring all the previous released clips," he wrote on his Instagram account Monday morning. He added, "gonna share a steady diet to the fans overall the next year" and "you’re gonna see some amazing stuff."

For starters, Joel’s live performance of "Piano Man" on the venerable British television show "The Old Grey Whistle Test" in 1975 debuted on YouTube Monday, according to the publication Ultimate Classic Rock.
