A Port Washington-based snack company has recalled select products due to a lack of milk allergen labeling on packaging.

Five different snacks have been recalled "following a routine inspection" that revealed the absence of the allergen warning, Karison Food and Snacks Inc. said in a news release. All five of the recalled Indian snacks — Panjiri (bar code 897307002437), Alsi Pinni (bar code 897307002512), Punjabi Pinni (bar code 897307002154), Besan Laddoo (bar code 897307002406) and No Sugar Added Besan Laddoo (bar code 897307002215) — come in 12 ounce clear plastic containers and have expiration dates of Aug. 29.

"No illnesses have been reported to date," Karison said in a news release." Persons who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product."

A milk allergy is different from milk or lactose intolerance. While someone with lactose intolerance may experience bloating and diarrhea after consuming milk, a person with a milk allergy can suffer anaphylaxis, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Consumers who purchased recalled Karison snacks "are urged to return products to the place of purchase for a full refund," the snack company said in its news release. The Port Washington company, established in 1992,  can be reached for additional information at 516-944-9000.

Karison did not respond to Newsday's request for comment on Tuesday.
