Mixology Clothing Company, which opened its newest women’s boutique in March in Merrick — its seventh storefront on Long Island since 2009 — is founded on a fundamental philosophy. Combining items from high and low price points adds up to looks that are both chic and affordable. Call that a win-win.
"Mixing and matching is part of our DNA," says Mixology president and head buyer Gabrielle Schwadron, 36, who runs the company with her brother, CEO Jordan Edwards, 40.
The business "was born out of the recession," adds Schwadron, who grew up in Hewlett, studied sociology at Northeastern University in Boston, and now lives in Manhattan. "Our price point is very comfortable."
Since the debut of Mixology in Oceanside 16 years ago, Long Island has been dotted with its brick-and-mortar shops in Woodbury, Roslyn Heights, Hewlett (now closed) and two in Westhampton Beach. Company headquarters and a warehouse are in Lynbrook. There are also locations in Manhattan, New Jersey and Florida, plus a busy online platform.
Across locations, Mixology prides itself on its inclusive vibe. As a girl, Schwadron "always looked forward to shopping" with her mom and grandma, she says. "It was an experience."
The business seeks to recreate that feeling for other mothers, daughters, grandmothers, sisters and friends. "There’s something for everyone," says e-commerce director Liz Cioffi. "Customers often say they’re getting ready for different life events and occasions — a graduation, a wedding, a party."
Merchandise includes everything from athleisure and dresses to pants, jackets, rompers, essentials, and accessories. Gab & Kate, Jac Parker, Z Supply, Levi’s, Robertson + Rodeo are just a sampling of the store’s popular labels.
There’s a wide mix of prices, depending on the item. Customers can find jeans for about $98, cozy cardigans for $82, and chic midi dresses for $89.
The Merrick store, an airy space featuring dark accents and arches, opened after a pop-up shop there was a big success last summer. "So many customers were asking us to open in Merrick, we tested it out," Schwadron says.
Now, the shop is a permanent part of the mix.
