'Disney on Ice' at UBS Arena: What to know before you go

The "Disney on Ice" appeal is so strong on Long Island that the popular event is now catching the eyes of nostalgic parents as much as it is their young children. 

"I know all the familiar songs and it brings me back to seeing Disney movies," says Christine Mangus, 40, of Seaford, who will be taking her 6-year-old daughter to see "Disney On Ice presents Mickey’s Search Party," which skates through UBS Arena in Elmont from Jan. 15-19.

Mickey and Minnie Mouse will skate off on a quest to rescue Tinker Bell from Captain Hook’s clutches in this ice show iteration, which last played the UBS Arena about three years ago, says spokesperson Cameron Corcoran.

The show features cast members on hoverboards, stilts, and swings, and professional ice skaters costumed as iconic characters, performing to a Disney and Pixar soundtrack. Expect character cameos from mega blockbusters, with Moana sailing by on an ice boat, "Beauty and the Beast's" Belle riding an enchanted chandelier, "Coco's" skeletons dancing atop sway poles, Woody and other "Toy Story" stalwarts on a mission in Andy's room, and "Frozen's" Elsa, once again letting go.

"When Elsa comes out skating and singing, every kid is singing along and their little toy wands are lighting up," says Katherine Kramer, 35, of Rocky Point, a veteran "Disney on Ice" fan who blogs for 8,000 followers on the North Fork Moms and Sayville Patchogue Moms social media platforms.

Kramer plans to take her 3- and 4-year-old daughters for the fifth time to the Disney show she first saw as a child with her own parents. On show night, Kramer dresses her girls for Disney cosplay and cheers along with a crowd of fans.

She expects to feel nostalgic as her kids eyes’ light up when they see their favorite Disney princesses skate onto the ice. "They are making memories that have lasted me a lifetime," says Kramer.
