Long Island weather cancels events, festivals this weekend

As weather forecasters predict a storm bringing offshore winds of up to 60 mph to Long Island this weekend, the organizers behind many events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday are canceling, postponing or rescheduling their events. Here's their latest status: 

Long Island Potato Festival: Postponed

This debut festival was expected at Farmingdale State College Saturday and Sunday. It has been rescheduled to Nov. 7-8.

Long Island Ducks: On as scheduled 

The Ducks play their championship game Friday night at Fairfield Properties Ballpark in Central Islip. The game is on as scheduled. The start time has been moved up to 5:30 p.m.

Greenport Maritime Festival: Postponed 

Set to take place this weekend in Greenport, the festival has been rescheduled for Oct. 16 through 18. "Maritime has always been about our relationship with the water and part of that is respecting the conditions around us," festival organizers said in a statement posted to Instagram on Monday. "Making this decision now gives our residents, businesses, vendors, sponsors, volunteers, visitors and participating organizations time to adjust while allowing us to preserve the full festival weekend."

Together in TEAL Walk : Canceled

The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition announced that its annual walk in Belmont Lake State Park that was scheduled for Saturday has been canceled "due to the severe weather forecast," citing the safety of participants, volunteers, community, and staff.

"We know how much this event means to our community, and this was not a decision made lightly," the post on Facebook stated. Additional information and next steps will be shared with registered participants by email.

Big Truck Day: Canceled

The Bridgehampton Children's Museum of the East End's annual truck day was scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon but has been canceled. A new date has not yet been announced.

Sag Harbor American Music Festival: Postponed 

The outdoor music festival in Sag Harbor set for this weekend has been postponed to Oct. 1 through 4. A revised schedule of performers will be posted to sagharbormusic.org.

Tour of the Hamptons: Canceled 

The biking event scheduled for Sunday in Southampton has been canceled.

MacArthur High School Homecoming: Postponed

The Levittown School District's General Douglas MacArthur High School announced on Instagram that its pep rally, originally planned for Friday, and the homecoming football game scheduled for Saturday, have both been moved to Friday, Oct. 2.

Long Island Fair at Old Bethpage Village Restoration: Monitoring weather

The fair in Old Bethpage will run Friday (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) as planned with the possibility of an early closure. Weekend activities will proceed subject to weather conditions. For weather updates, visit lifair.org or check Facebook and Instagram pages.

Fall Festival at Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium: Postponed

The Fall Festival in Cold Spring Harbor has been canceled. The event has been rescheduled for Oct. 3.

Greek Festival on the Harbor: Monitoring weather

Archangel Michael Church's outdoor festival featuring Greek food, pastries, festive dancing and music is scheduled for Thursday through Sunday in Port Washington.

2026 WRS Chamber Fall Festival: Monitoring weather

The festival is scheduled to take place at the East Wind in Wading River on Sunday. Organizers said they are closely monitoring weather conditions and have yet to decide whether to reschedule.

Cedar Beach Blues Festival: Postponed 

The Cedar Beach Blues Festival previously scheduled for Sunday at Harborfront Park has been canceled, organizers said Thursday. The event has been rescheduled for Oct. 3.

Italian Festival in Massapequa: Postponed

The 29th annual Italian feast on Broadway in Massapequa is canceled.  The event has been rescheduled for Oct. 4.

Iron Man at Jones Beach: Canceled

The Iron Man race set for Jones Beach in Wantagh on Saturday has been canceled. "To provide athletes with an opportunity to race, we are exploring the option of rescheduling the IRONMAN 70.3 New York. Registered athletes will receive a separate communication outlining their options, including the possibility of a rescheduled event, as those details become available," a statement released Friday reads.

Car Show at Tobay: Postponed 

This weekend's Tobay car show in Massapequa has been rescheduled to Oct. 3 at 11 a.m. with That 70's Band, organizers said Thursday.

Fall Fun Fest at Sands Point Preserve: Postponed

The fall festival at Sands Point Preserve has been rescheduled to Oct. 4, organizers announced on their website.

Hamptons Marathon: Canceled

The Hamptons Marathon, Half-Marathon and 5K planned for Saturday has been cancelled, organizers announced on their website.

"We know how much time, training, and planning goes into race weekend, and we understand how disappointing and frustrating this news will be," organizers said in a statement. They added that it will not be rescheduled.

Those who registered for the race can defer their entry to next year's Hamptons Marathon weekend or put it towards another event organized by Capstone Race. There are currently no other New York races listed on Capstone's website, but organizers said they are "finalizing a few new additions to our race calendar" Hamptons runners can consider.
