There are more than 100 Duck Donuts in 25 states and five countries but, now, one less on Long Island. The Selden shop, which opened in 2020 in the College Plaza shopping center, has closed. Callers were met with a voice mail message on Monday notifying shoppers of the closure.  Owner Veronica Bencivenga could not immediately be reached for comment.

In 2018, Veronica and her husband, Anthony Bencivenga, opened New York State’s first franchise of the North Carolina-based chain. That store, in Hauppauge, remains open.

It's Omar Athar who has the franchise rights for Nassau County and operates Duck Donuts in East Meadow, Garden City and Plainview.

Duck Donuts, famous for its endlessly customizable doughnuts, is named for Duck, North Carolina. It was in this beach destination on the state’s Outer Banks where the chain was founded by Russ DiGilio got its start in 2007.
