5 buzzy Long Island spots for frozen yogurt

Summer ending doesn't mean the end of an icy treat. Frozen yogurt  is a year-round sweet indulgence on Long Island, and one that can sometimes be slightly healthier option than other desserts — though that depends on whether or not the base is actually made of yogurt and what toppings you choose to load it with.

It’s not just about the flavor but the do-it-yourself experience of pulling the lever on the frozen yogurt dispenser, seeing the swirly soft-serve come out, and then choosing from toppings such as fruit, granola, gummy bears, sprinkles and more. The demand for Froyo is on the rise with new shops entering the Long Island scene in recent months, including Buddies Frozen Yogurt in Long Beach and Ilios Froyo in Roslyn.

Sofia Quintero, co-owner of Ilios Froyo, said part of that demand is health-focused, at least at her shop, where six Greek yogurt-based flavors are served, three of which will rotate monthly.

"I think now everyone is in tune with their health and wellness," Quintero said. "Everyone wants to live a little longer, feel better, look better, all of the above."

In the Hamptons, another Froyo vendor is embarking on an expansion due to the demand. BuddhaBerry debuted in Sag Harbor 10 years ago and opened a second outpost in Southampton in 2024. BuddhaBerry is now preparing to go national with opening a branch in West Palm Beach at the end of the month and a fourth location in the tristate area, co-owner Natalie Jones said.

"We definitely saw an uptick in the number of customers coming through our door this summer," Jones said, noting that traffic is particularly high in the summer due to the Hamptons locale. 

Mikey Waldman, co-owner of Long Beach’s Buddies Frozen Yogurt, which opened in July on West Beech Street, said it’s also "an experience, a nice night out."

"The type of toppings that everyone seems to be offering is really what makes the whole [experience]," he said.

This popular Nassau yogurt spot has seven yogurt flavors that rotate weekly including cappuccino, cookies and cream, and toasted marshmallow. Buddies Frozen Yogurt

1048 W. Beech St., Long Beach

The Froyo bug bit Long Beach this summer with this new West Beech Street spot. At 92 cents an ounce, everything is charged by weight. Guests can choose from a total of six flavors including cake batter, cookies and cream, vanilla and original tart. Ilios Froyo

1355 Old Northern Blvd., Roslyn

This Roslyn spot is adding a bit of Greece to the Froyo scene. The family-run spot feels polished and modern, with warm ivory and beige tones, wood accents and light stones on the flooring and counters. The decor includes cream-colored chairs and olive trees, a nod to Quintero's Greek heritage. Pricing is by ounce. 

The menu includes six flavors, three of which rotate monthly. Flavors include the organic original tart, raspberry and organic vanilla bean. Toppings include fresh fruits like honeydew, golden mango and fig. Dry toppings include sprinkles, granola, chocolate chips and cookie dough.
