Huntington’s façade is changing yet again with the closing of Hana & Rosa less than a year after it opened.
The Japanese-Mexican fusion restaurant on New York Avenue opened last November, taking over the space that used to be Mission Taco.
Hana & Rosa’s menu fused the cuisines with items such as chicken tinga enchiladas and miso ramen. The menu also featured traditional Japanese bar snacks like chicken wings, shrimp shumai and Tako Yaki, fried dough balls stuffed with octopus, tempura, pickled ginger and green onion. It also had a variety of sakes and beers imported from Japan.
A lease sign, as of last weekend, hangs on the restaurant's window from real estate agency Phelps & Associates. A sign inside reads "free stuff."
The restaurant had a modern, urban-industrial aesthetic. The decor included a large mural of two women, one in anime or manga style, and one drawn in traditional Spanish style. The bar was adorned with Japanese lanterns.
Restaurant owner Chuck Liu, who also owns Chakra Japanese Fusion in Flushing, Queens, did not respond to a request for comment, nor has Phelps & Associates.
Several restaurants have recently closed in Huntington, including Red, Finley's of Green Street, Neraki and the upscale Greek restaurant Noema.
