Employee at Learn & Play Center in Baldwin charged with sexually abusing 2 boys at daycare

A Baldwin childcare center employee faces sexual abuse charges after she allegedly inappropriately touched two boys last month, Nassau County police said.
According to an investigation, Asia Oliver, 27, of Hempstead, inappropriately touched the children on July 1 at Learn & Play Center at 2163 Grand Ave., where she was employed.
Oliver was arrested on Thursday without incident and was charged with first-degree and second-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.
She was arraigned on Friday at First District Court in Hempstead, where she pleaded not guilty. Judge William Bodkin issued a temporary order of protection, according to online court records. Bail was set at $50,000 cash, $100,000 insured bond or $250,000 partially secured surety bond, records show. Oliver is represented by the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, which does not comment on ongoing cases.
Police said anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a similar incident should contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS or the Special Victims Squad at 516-573-4022. All callers will remain anonymous.
When Newsday called the daycare center on Friday, an employee who asked for anonymity said Oliver no longer works at the business.
Learn & Play Center accommodates children ages 5 through 12 and provides before- and after-school programming for school-age children, its website says. The center is not on the New York State Office of Children and Family Services’ list of daycare facilities facing license revocation or suspension, records show.
OCFS inspectors have visited the Baldwin daycare facility three times this year — but not since the alleged sexual abuse — and found issues such as peeling paint and staff that had failed to complete a minimum of 30 hours of training every two years, records show.
Both issues, documents indicate, have since been corrected.
