A Scouting America trailer stolen last month from the parking lot of a Port Jefferson Station Roman Catholic church and filled with equipment for Troop 454's trip to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is still missing.
The Suffolk County Police Department hopes to change that with the release early Tuesday of a crime alert offering an unspecified cash reward for information leading to the arrest of whoever stole the 2007 2-G trailer.
The silver-colored trailer — emblazoned with the Stars and Stripes and the troop's red and white flag, was stolen in September from the St. Gerard Majella Roman Catholic Church parking lot at 300 Terryville Rd., according to the police department alert.
Organizers said on social media that the trailer was filled with tools and equipment needed for an upcoming camping trip to Gettysburg. Scouting America is the rebranded name of the Boy Scouts of America.
Suffolk County Crime Stoppers is offering the reward for any information leading to an arrest. Police are asking anyone with information to call 800-220-8477 with anonymous tips.
Neither troop leaders nor church officials have responded to requests from Newsday for comment.
Another trailer belonging to a scouting troop was stolen in Islip two years ago. Representatives for Troop 151 in Manorville said at the time the trailer was stolen from a church parking lot just before Christmas 2024. It contained cookware, tents and a troop sign used by the scouts for decades, with a total value of more than $10,000.
That trailer was never recovered, but the Manorville Community Ambulance company donated a new trailer to help the scouts recover from the losses.
