Nassau County police charged a Malverne man Sunday in a hit-and-run crash that critically injured an 80-year-old pedestrian.
Police said a woman was struck by the driver of a black Toyota Camry at 12:18 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Franklin and Cornwell avenues in Malverne. The driver sped away from the scene and the woman was hospitalized in critical condition.
Police later arrested the suspected driver of the Camry, Matthew Calabrese, 19, of Malverne, charging him with leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury and violating the right-of-way of a person in the crosswalk.
Calabrese pleaded not guilty Monday in First District Court in Hempstead and was released with non-monetary conditions, according to court records. His attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
