A man was charged Saturday evening with murder in the death of a Bellport woman who was found that morning with mortal injuries inside a vehicle at a Yaphank gas station, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
A police news release listed the man as Michael McHenry, 40, also of Bellport; the victim was Juliann Bachmann, 30.
The department declined to reveal a motive, if any; explain how he was caught; or describe the relationship between victim and suspect, except to say in an email: "The two were known to each other."
McHenry was arrested at 8:13 p.m. on a charge of second-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip and was remanded to jail without bail. McHenry is scheduled to be back in court Friday, the records show.
He couldn't be reached for comment, and no lawyer representing him could be identified.
The release says that Bachmann was found "injured and unresponsive" in the vehicle, which was at the Speedway gas station on Horseblock Road about 7:25 a.m. She was brought to a hospital, where she was declared dead.
An earlier news release said that a preliminary investigation concluded the cause of death to be criminal.
