Police charge Michael Bonner after Freeport man dies of injuries from March 25 hit-and-run

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a hit-and-run in Freeport last month that resulted in the death Friday of a 66-year-old man, Nassau County police said on Saturday.
Narciso Guerra Lopez, of Freeport, was crossing Merrick Road in Freeport around 8:10 p.m. on March 25 when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle. The driver fled the scene, and Guerra Lopez suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed, police said in a news release.

Homicide squad detectives arrested Michael Bonner, 40, who police said is undomiciled, following an investigation into the incident. Bonner is charged with leaving the scene of an incident resulting in death and second-degree tampering with physical evidence, police said.
Bonner is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
