Home health care companies licensed to operate on Long Island. Is yours on the list?

Friends For Life Homecare, which has four offices across Long Island, says to state officials that it provides only non-medical care to clients, like light housekeeping, companionship and socialization.

Newsday, however, spoke with current and former Friends For Life aides, reviewed text message screenshots from company officials to workers and lawsuits against the business that show that the Massapequa company is providing more than what they report to the state. Across New York, there are roughly 1,300 home health care companies sanctioned by the State Department of Health, including roughly 500 that are allowed to operate on Long Island.

The industry, driven by the aging population and financial incentives to hire in-home aides, is booming, with 40% more people in New York working as aides in home health and personal care last year than the previous five, federal statistics show.
