When Rebecca Bisson met Brett Leavitt in 2017, it wasn’t on a dating app or through friends in New York, but during their sophomore year at Syracuse University.

Bisson, who now works in ticket sales revenue for the New York Mets, and Leavitt, who works in construction management, were introduced by Bisson’s friend Molly — who would later stand beside her as a bridesmaid. They began dating that same summer and have been together ever since.

“He was just so easy to talk to,” Bisson recalled. “I don’t remember the exact moment we met, but I remember leaving that day feeling like I had known him forever.”

For Leavitt, who is from Syosset, the feeling was instant. “She glowed,” he said. “There was something about her. I just wanted to be around her more.”

Their friendship turned into romance months later, and over time, the two began to envision a future together.

He asked her to marry him on June 3, 2023, at The Crescent Beach Club in Bayville, where they had spent every anniversary, and he’d secretly gathered both families on the terrace overlooking the water before he popped the question.

That evening, the couple celebrated with 100 guests.

“I was so surprised and overwhelmed with emotion,” Bisson said. “Seeing our family and friends was an unbelievable feeling, especially knowing they traveled from afar to be there. It was really special.”

The couple married March 22 at Chateau at Coindre Hall in Huntington.

It was important to both to honor their family throughout the day, they said. Bisson wore her mother’s wedding dress, reimagined into a modern look, and cowboy boots to reflect her personality.

The couple incorporated photos of their grandparents’ weddings, and Leavitt’s late grandfather’s tallit, a prayer shawl, was suspended above them during the ceremony.

“We wanted to make sure our grandparents were present in every way,” Bisson said.

The reception blended classic elegance with playful touches, including a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Met, the mascots of their beloved New York Mets.
