Early in their relationship, Blythe Miller, 37, and Tim Rothang, 41, sensed they had a future together. After conversing for a couple of weeks on the Facebook dating app, they met for dinner in Bellport. It was April 2024.
“The first time I saw her, I thought she was beautiful,” recalled Rothang, chief of staff for Suffolk County Legis. James F. Mazzarella (R-Moriches). “I was impressed by her intelligence . . . she was classy, and I thought she was my type.”
Miller, a Suffolk County assistant district attorney, said she thought Rothang was reserved that evening and seemed nervous. “I wasn’t sure how he felt about it. He was quiet,” she said.
Nevertheless, she sent him a voice memo after dinner saying she had a “great time” and hoped to see him again.
Rothang texted her back within minutes, he said, saying he felt the same. That night they began planning their second date.
Even though the couple met online, Miller discovered that Rothang often works in her office building. “Our paths have crossed without our knowing it,” Miller said.
In February 2025, during a trip to Pennsylvania to visit Miller’s sister, brother-in-law and nephew, Rothang planned to propose marriage at Monster Jam, a live motorsport event featuring giant trucks that perform stunts.
“My friends thought it was a great idea because it would be memorable, but Blythe’s sister thought it was a bad idea,” said Rothang, with a laugh. He agreed to pop the question later that day at dinner, with her family looking on.
“I said, ‘Everyone, I have something to say,’ and I talked about how I love Blythe, and then I asked her to marry me,” he recalled. “She said, ‘Oh my God, what is happening now? and said, ‘yes’ and kissed me.”
The couple “eloped,” tying the knot in Las Vegas on June 12, followed by a honeymoon in Grand Canyon National Park.
“We joked that we had the all-American wedding and honeymoon,” said Rothang.
Their love and family have grown, as they welcomed a baby boy last week.
