Crews continued to repair a water main late Thursday more than 11 hours after it broke, weakening water pressure for nearby businesses in Hewlett.

Liberty New York Water, the utility provider, hoped "to have water pressure restored by approximately 9 p.m.," spokeswoman Pamela Bellings told Newsday via email.

"Ten commercial customers experienced low water pressure during this incident, and we greatly appreciate their patience and understanding as we work to resolve the issue," Bellings added. "The cause of the break is undetermined at this time as our focus is on repairs."

The 12-inch pipe broke about 9:30 a.m. Thursday underneath Broadway and Everit Avenue, according to Bellings. Crews have since been "working to make repairs as quickly and safely as possible," she added.

Nassau County police closed all westbound lanes and two eastbound lanes of Broadway between West Broadway and East Rockaway Road, the department said in a news release. Motorists were advised to take alternate routes while crews make repairs.

All the lanes were reopened early Friday morning.
