The driver of a Toyota sedan that crossed into oncoming traffic Wednesday morning on Hempstead Turnpike in Uniondale died after the vehicle collided with a BMW, the Nassau County Police Department said.

About 10:42 a.m., the male driver, 25, was heading east in the 2001 Toyota at the intersection of Glen Curtiss Boulevard when he "crossed over and collided" with the westbound 2006 BMW, the Nassau County police said in a news release.

The driver of the Toyota was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the police said. His identity was not immediately available late Wednesday.

Both the driver and passenger of the BMW were transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to the police. No other injuries were reported.

Photos of the crash show the black Toyota sedan overturned after striking what appears to be a BMW SUV with significant front-end damage.

The Homicide Squad is investigating the collision, according to the release.
