Fire heavily damages North Merrick home; 2 residents displaced

Two people were injured and displaced from their home after a fire broke out at a North Merrick residence Tuesday night, the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office said.
The North Merrick Fire Department received a 911 call just after 10 p.m. of a fire in a two-story house on Merrick Avenue, Michael Mennella, of the fire marshal’s office, said in a release.
Firefighters found a fire in the attic and on the second floor of the home, he said.
Newsday photos show flames erupting from the roof and second floor of the house.
With assistance from the Merrick, Bellmore, North Bellmore, Roosevelt, and East Meadow fire departments, about 75 firefighters put out the fire within 90 minutes. Bellmore-Merrick EMS also responded to the fire.
Two residents suffered minor injuries but declined medical treatment, Mennella said.
The two occupants were displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross as the building was deemed uninhabitable.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
