A pedestrian was struck and killed Wednesday evening in East Meadow while crossing Hempstead Turnpike, the road repeatedly called the region’s most dangerous for walking.

The name of the pedestrian, a 58-year-old woman, was not publicly disclosed in a Nassau County Police Department news release.

She was struck just before 7 p.m. by the driver of a 2014 Lexus who was westbound on the turnpike near Clearmeadow Drive, the release said.

The pedestrian was declared dead at a local hospital, where she was brought in the aftermath of the crash.

The police news release did not provide any other details. The crash forced the closure of Hempstead Turnpike in the area for several hours Wednesday night

Hempstead Turnpike has the dubious distinction of repeatedly making the Tri-State Transportation Campaign’s list of most dangerous roads for walking.
