A driver struck and critically hurt a pedestrian who was crossing Jericho Turnpike near Nassau Boulevard "outside of a crosswalk" in Garden City Park on Wednesday evening, the Nassau County Police Department said.

Police identified the pedestrian only as a 44-year-old man.

The crash comes 10 days after a 56-year-old man was fatally struck while crossing Jericho Turnpike in Garden City Park, also near Nassau Boulevard. That man's identity was not released.

Wednesday's crash happened about 7:20 p.m., when a 58-year-old man driving west in a 2016 Ford struck the 44-year-old man, the department wrote in a news release.

The driver stayed at the crash scene; the pedestrian was hospitalized in critical condition, the release said.

The release did not provide further details.
