A family of nine was displaced Wednesday evening following a house fire, during which a civilian and a firefighter needed medical attention, officials said.
The Roosevelt Fire Department responded to a 6:04 p.m. call regarding a fire at a two-story house on Grant Street, according to a news release from Nassau County Assistant Chief Fire Marshal Bohdan J. Pilczak.
The American Red Cross was deployed to help the three adults and six children who have been displaced by the blaze, Pilczak said.
One of the home’s occupants required medical attention from EMTs at the scene for smoke inhalation, according to Pilczak. EMTs also treated a firefighter for a hand injury at the scene.
Around 60 firefighters responded to the scene, including from mutual aid departments from Freeport, Hempstead, Merrick, North Merrick and Uniondale, the release said. The blaze was deemed under control after 40 minutes.
The Nassau County Fire Marshal and the Nassau County Police Arson/Bomb Squad are investigating the cause of the fire, Pilczak said.
