A man was declared dead on Thursday evening after being found in need of "live-saving measures" on the shoulder of the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

An investigation is ongoing into the death of the man, 26, whom officers had tried to resuscitate after being dispatched to the expressway just south of Old Country Road around 5:35 p.m., the department wrote in a news release. Police said he was brought to a hospital and a physician there declared him dead.

The northbound expressway was closed between Exits 9 and 10, in the vicinity of Plainview and Bethpage, for at least three hours on Thursday night during a police investigation.

No other details were disclosed, including whether his name is known, how he got to the expressway and the cause of death.
