Man shot to death in New Cassel early New Year's Day, police say

A man was found shot and killed early New Year's Day in New Cassel, Nassau County homicide detectives said.
Police officers responded to Railroad Avenue near Siegel Street shortly after 2 a.m. on Thursday following a report of someone shot and found the unidentified 40-year-old man, authorities said.
He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
Police originally said the victim was 51 before correcting themselves. The investigation into the early morning homicide is ongoing.
