A pedestrian was seriously injured after he was struck by vehicle in Riverhead on Wednesday night, Riverhead police said.

Just after 10 p.m., police received reports of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on County Road 58, east of Ostrander Avenue.

Officers found a man in the roadway with an apparent head wound.

An investigation found the man had attempted to cross Route 58 from south to north when he was struck by a 2021 Ford Ranger in the westbound lane, police said.

The man was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver, a 70-year-old Seaford man, remained on the scene.

No further details were immediately available.
