BACKGROUND
Tierney, 59, of Holtsville, who has no party affiliation, is unopposed in the race for Suffolk County district attorney. He is running on the Republican and Conservative lines as he seeks a second term. A former federal prosecutor, Tierney said his office has taken a "comprehensive approach to criminal prosecutions," and highlighted the Gilgo Beach serial killings case, a new Cold Case Unit, retail theft initiative and a new street takeover task force.
