Suffolk police on Wednesday arrested a Wheatley Heights man who allegedly fled after crashing a car into a Huntington Station adult living facility Sunday, displacing more than two dozen residents.

Javon Robinson, 32, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash, a Suffolk police spokesperson told Newsday via email. He was issued a desk appearance ticket and is scheduled to attend First District Court in Central Islip on Nov. 17.

About 10 p.m. on Sunday, a Honda Civic traveling north on McKay Road left the roadway and struck the Manor Haven Home for Adults at 222 Columbia St., police previously told Newsday. The driver, who police have now suspect was Robinson, of the Honda fled on foot before officers arrived.

The crash broke a pipe that sent water spewing from the bottom of the home Sunday night. Structural damage to the building caused 27 residents, ranging in age from 60 to 80, to be displaced. The Red Cross assisted in relocating them, police said. No injuries were reported.

Administrators at Manor Haven said residents were evacuated from the home shortly after 10 p.m. and taken to the Woodbury Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Woodbury. They were provided beds, medication and breakfast Monday. Officials did not have an estimate on when they would be able to return to Manor Haven.

Residents at Manor Haven are provided assisted living and treatment for medical issues, including mental health care. The home has a capacity of 32 beds, according to the New York State Department of Health.

Wreckage from the crash remained Monday morning at the residence, which sits at the bottom of a curve at the corner of Columbia Street and McKay Road.

There was no answer at the home Monday; the side of the building was boarded up and yellow caution tape hung from the fence.

Debris from the crash was scattered in the side yard, including a piece of the fender and headlight from the car.

Pieces of siding, broken boards and a shred of tire sat in the yard off the side of the road.
