Islip Town overnight closures: on State Route 111 and Exit 40S on Southern State Parkway

Sections of State Route 111 and the Southern State Parkway in Islip Town will be partially shut down beginning on Monday, according to the New York State Department of Transportation, which said the closures will last for five days and five weeks, respectively.
The Southern State closure will impact the Exit 40S ramp for drivers coming from the west. That exit puts drivers directly into the southbound lanes of the Robert Moses Causeway, which leads to Fire Island and Robert Moses State Park.
That ramp will be shut down from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weeknights for roughly five weeks starting on Monday to "facilitate guiderail replacement," according to the NYSDOT’s announcement.
"Motorists should continue westbound on the Southern State Parkway to Exit 39S for southbound State Route 231 toward eastbound Southern State Parkway to Exit 40S for Robert Moses Causeway," the agency wrote.
About five miles further east, there will be another overnight closure, this one on State Route 111 — also called Islip Avenue — in both directions between Moffitt Boulevard and Union Boulevard.
That roadway will be shut down from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Monday and continuing for five successive nights. The closure is meant to facilitate drainage enhancements, according to NYSDOT.
Drivers going north on that road will be shuttled into the west lanes of Union Boulevard, onto the north lanes of Nassau Avenue, then to the east lanes of Moffit Boulevard before they are able to get back on State Route 111.
Southbound drivers should go west on Moffit Boulevard, south on Nassau Avenue, and then east on Union Boulevard before they can return to State Route 111.
The work schedule for both roadway projects could change because of weather, NYSDOT wrote in its news release.
