Route 347 in Hauppauge reopened after crash seriously hurts 1, snarls traffic

An early morning crash left two injured, one seriously, and forced the closure of all westbound lanes of Route 347, Veterans Memorial Highway, in Hauppauge on Thursday, Suffolk police said.
In a news release, police said that shortly after 6 a.m., a 2010 Honda Odyssey driving west on Veterans Memorial Hwy. struck a 2013 Dodge Caravan at the intersection of County Center Road. near Suffolk County offices in the H. Lee Denison Building.
A passenger in the Caravan was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries. The drivers of the vehicles were also taken to hospitals, but their injuries were not life-threatening, according to the release.
A second crash in the area less than two hours later resulted in two minor injuries.

That crash, reported shortly after 8 a.m., occurred near the entrance to Blydenburgh Park.
