A Sag Harbor man driving a motorcycle is in critical condition after being "intentionally" run over by a Riverhead man driving a Jeep — both "involved in an ongoing dispute," according to the Riverhead Town Police Department.
The assault occurred Friday around 7 p.m. on Old Country Road, between Ostrander Avenue and Oliver Street. Police said Tyryk Lewis, 28, was driving east on Old Country Road in a Jeep when he struck Michael Mccann, 60, who was riding a Honda motorcycle.
Mccan "was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital by the Suffolk County Police Aviation Unit and remains in critical condition," according to a Saturday news release from Riverhead police.
The agency’s announcement said Lewis and Mccan "had been involved in an ongoing dispute." Detectives believe Lewis "intentionally drove his vehicle into the motorcycle."
The department did not provide further information about the nature of the dispute.
Lewis had passenger Rita Stumpf, 39, in the Jeep when he struck Mccan. Police describe Stumpf as "an undomiciled female in the Riverhead area" who was arrested and charged with possession of crack cocaine following the crash.
Lewis, a Riverhead resident, was arrested and charged with assault in the second degree.
Police are continuing to investigate the collision. The agency’s news release asks anyone with information to contact the Riverhead Police Department at (631) 727-4500, ext. 312.
