A Riverhead man was arrested on Friday, charged with possessing child pornography, Suffolk police said.
In a news release, Suffolk County Police said Josue Duran, 33, was charged with possessing a sexual performance by a child and promoting a sexual performance by a child after detectives with a search warrant seized multiple cellphones at a Duryea Street address.
Duran pleaded not guilty at arraignment on Friday at First District Court in Central Islip. Judge Pierce F. Cohalan, set bail at $10,000 cash, $20,000 insured bond or $100,000.00 partially secured surety bond, according to court records.
His defense attorney, William James McDonald, did not immediately return a telephone message seeking comment late Friday.
Police said their search followed a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program. The program’s website describes it as a national network representing more than 6,200 law enforcement agencies that is "dedicated to investigating, prosecuting and developing effective responses to internet crimes against children."
