One side of Sunrise Highway and one side of Station Road in Brookhaven Town will be closed overnight as crews do roadwork for four weeks starting on Monday, the New York State Department of Transportation said.
The closures are happening weeknights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. near Sunrise Highway’s interchange with Station Road. That crossroads is flanked by the Bellport Outlets Stores to the north and a BJ’s Wholesale Club to the south in the Village of Bellport.
The shutdowns are to “facilitate maintenance to the Station Road bridge over Sunrise Highway,” according to an announcement from the state DOT. The road sections to be impacted are the westbound Sunrise Highway at Exit 55 and the northbound lanes at Station Road where it intersects with the highway.
Traffic on the former segment will be sent onto the North Service Road and then back onto the highway. On the section of Station Road, northbound traffic will be “detoured onto eastbound Sunrise Highway to Exit 57N for westbound Horseblock Road (County Route 16) to westbound Sunrise Highway to Exit 55 for Station Road northbound,” the state DOT wrote in its news release.
The closures are expected to occur every weeknight for about four weeks, as long as weather permits, the DOT said.
