Sunrise Highway in North Bellport is reopened after a teenager crashed her car into a tree on Friday evening, causing a portion of the roadway to be closed, according to a Suffolk County Police Department spokeswoman.

The crash happened around 10 p.m. on Friday. A 19-year-old woman was driving a 2010 Nissan Altima when she struck a tree on the side of the road, roughly 500 feet from Station Road overpass, according to the police spokeswoman.

The teenager was taken to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police shut down the eastbound portion of the roadway from the time of the crash until shortly before 1 a.m., according to the spokeswoman, who said it wasn’t immediately clear if a larger portion of the highway was closed during that time as well.

The police spokeswoman said detectives with the Suffolk County Police Department’s Fifth Squad are continuing to investigate the crash as of 9 a.m. on Saturday.
