Sunrise Highway in Islip Town scheduled for overnight closure for 2 months

Part of Sunrise Highway in Islip will be shut down for roughly eight weeks starting on Monday, the New York State Department of Transportation said.
The closure will impact the westbound lanes of the highway at Exit 43, near the interchange with Fifth Avenue in Bay Shore, on weeknights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The shutdown will be in place for about two months "to facilitate maintenance to the Fifth Avenue bridge over Sunrise Highway," according to the DOT’s release. The agency noted that the schedule could change if weather affects the work.
Drivers who need to use that part of road during the shutdown will be "briefly detoured" onto the North Service Road before reentering the highway after they are past the construction area, the DOT said.
