Firefighters from 18 fire departments battled a Central Islip warehouse fire for several hours on Tuesday before bringing it under control.

Central Islip firefighters were called to the blaze at 250 Creative Dr. shortly after 10 a.m., according to Suffolk Fire and Emergency Rescue.

Black smoke could be seen pouring out of the warehouse, where crews from 17 additional fire departments responded to assist. Central Islip firefighters said the fire was under control by 2 p.m. but firefighters remained on the scene Tuesday.

The warehouse sits between homes and a Target and Home Depot shopping center on Creative Drive and Research Place. A property listing described the building as 300,000 square feet.

Suffolk County Fire Coordinator Rudy Sunderman said the building was heavily damaged. One firefighter was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The Islip fire marshal and Suffolk police and arson detectives are investigating the cause of the blaze.

The address is listed for a warehouse for the company Creative Bath Products Inc. The company says on its website that it manufactures products 24 hours a day at the facility, including bathroom and shower products and other home, storage and dining ware.
