The Village of Nissequogue has granted a popular equestrian facility in St. James a permanent permit to continue its operations after years of the facility operating on temporary permits.

Silver Oak Stable has been operating on a series of three-year special-use permits since March 2009, according to village officials.

The Nissequogue board of trustees voted 5-0 at its meeting Tuesday to grant the permanent special permit. No one spoke for or against the motion.

Village officials consider the equestrian facility a key business because of its location at Nissequogue's gateway on Moriches Road.

Brian Egan, an attorney from Patchogue law firm Egan & Golden LLP who is representing Branglebrink LLC, which owns the facility, formally requested last month that the village grant Silver Oak Stable permanent status based on its track record of complying with terms of the earlier permits.

“We are delighted to be in the Village of Nissequogue, and we appreciate the cooperation with Village Hall that we’ve had over many years,” Egan said at the meeting last month.

The facility opened in 2008, according to property records. Accumanage LLC, a Bohemia-based developer, built an expansion of the 26-acre facility in the fall of 2011, according to the developer’s website. The expansion allowed the facility to add a 25,000-square-foot indoor riding arena, derby fields and riding rings, three on-site cottages for staff, a compost facility and office and conference accommodations.

Egan said in a brief statement the owners “respectfully declined to comment.”

Nissequogue Mayor Richard Smith said in an interview before Tuesday's meeting that since Silver Oak Stable has been in the village, its work converting the property into a successful business has been “extremely thorough and well done.”

“They’ve put up a number of buildings which in my opinion are very, very attractive and add to the appeal of the village as you enter into it,” Smith said.
