Alcohol will be banned on LIRR trains and stations for 24 hours starting at 5 a.m. Thursday as New York City holds a ticker-tape parade for the NBA champion Knicks, the MTA announced Wednesday.
MTA police will enforce the ban, which goes until 5 a.m. Friday, according to an alert Wednesday afternoon. Riders are also being urged to allocate extra travel time for their commutes as more customers are expected to use the LIRR to travel to the parade.
"We are expecting a much higher volume of customers than usual for this historic celebration," the MTA alert said.
