LIRR crews remove disabled train; service returning to normal

The Long Island Rail Road was returning to normal Monday after crews removed a disabled nonpassenger train west of Jamaica.

The disabled train was removed shortly before 8 a.m. after causing widespread delays and cancellations earlier in the morning commute, the LIRR said on its website.

The Ronkonkoma Branch cancellations included the 5:49 a.m. train from Ronkonkoma to Penn Station. On the Babylon Branch, the 5:38 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. trains from Wantagh to Penn Station were canceled. The railroad advised passengers to take later trains on that line.

The LIRR's other branches were also impacted during the rush hour, according to the railroad's website, including the Long Beach, Port Jefferson and Hempstead branches.
