LIE Dix Hills on-ramp to be closed for 2 weeks for sound-barrier repairs

The Dix Hills on-ramp to the Long Island Expressway will be partially closed for two weeks starting on Monday, while state transportation officials repair sound barriers to the highway.
State officials said the westbound entrance near Route 231 will be closed from the North Service Road near Exit 51 on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. for about two weeks, weather permitting.
Drivers entering the expressway can drive on the service road for about 2 miles to the next on-ramp, east of Bagatelle Road near Exit 50.
State officials announced an $8.9 million project in October to repair sound barriers on the LIE between Exit 49 at Route 110 in Melville to Exit 57 for Route 454/Veterans Memorial Highway.
Officials said the project would replace damaged planks on existing sound barriers to block noise from passing traffic.
