Around 7:30 p.m., the driver of a 2000 BMW sedan was driving on County Road 58 near Carls Place in Riverhead when he struck the man, a Riverhead resident, according to the police.
The pedestrian, 27, was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, the police said.
The 20-year-old driver of the BMW remained at the scene and was not injured.
