NYC Mayor Eric Adams: Tracking staff departures, arrests and more

Though President Trump intervened to clear the federal charges against Mayor Eric Adams, the criminal cases against his staff continue.

On Thursday, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg unsealed public corruption charges against former top adviser Ingrid Lewis-Martin, her son and former Brooklyn state senator Jesse Hamilton, a deputy commissioner at the Department of Citywide Administrative Services. Several other businesspeople and their companies were also indicted for allegedly bribing Lewis-Martin and Hamilton.

Hamilton’s lawyer said that his client would “strongly consider” resigning from his post.

The mayor, whose top polls show him trailing far behind his political opponents Zorhan Mamdani and former governor Andrew Cuomo, maintains that the people he has chosen to run his administration have served the city well.

“While Ingrid Lewis-Martin no longer works for this administration, she has been a friend and colleague for over 40 years, and I know her as a devoted public servant; she has declared her innocence, and my prayers are with her and her family,” he said in a statement. “I also recognize that Jesse Hamilton has pleaded not guilty, and like anyone accused, he is entitled to the presumption of innocence. My commitment to New Yorkers is unwavering—no distraction will ever take my eyes off the ball dedicated to this great city we all call home.”

He also pointed out that he was not implicated in any of the recent charges.

“I have not been accused of any wrongdoing, and my focus remains on serving the 8.5 million New Yorkers by making our city safer and more affordable every day.”

With the general election approaching in November, this indictment is likely to be on voters' minds when they go to the polls.
