A man was fatally shot on a Midtown Manhattan subway platform Saturday afternoon, according to police.
The victim, who was not identified, was shot once in the chest on the northbound E platform in the Seventh Avenue station at 53rd Street at 12:21 p.m., an NYPD spokesman said.
He was transported to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead, police said.
The NYPD described the suspect as a male wearing a red tracksuit, black vest, black face mask and a backpack.
Saturday's killing was the seventh so far this year, an NYPD spokesperson said in an email. The NYPD recorded four murders through the same period last year, and none thereafter in 2025. That was the lowest total since 2009, excluding the peak pandemic years.
The department cordoned off the station during its investigation, which is ongoing.
