A coastal storm passing well southeast of Long Island will leave gusty winds in its trail along with choppy seas for Thursday, but then a stretch of sunny, seasonable weather is forecast for the region.

NewsdayTV meteorologist Geoff Bansen said Long Island should continue to see generally sunny conditions over the next several days, with some extra high clouds and no rain.

Winds could gust as high as 30 mph Thursday but they will settle down Friday as the storm turns away from Long Island.

"The only thing we're really concerned about is the rougher waters," Bansen said of commercial fishing boats now that the recreational boating season is over. "So, people need not worry outside of mariners and people with very easily flooded basements."

A coastal flood advisory is in effect on Wednesday for southwest Suffolk County from 5 to 9 p.m.

High temperatures will be in the high 50s or low to mid 60s for much of Long Island through the weekend.
