First, the bad news.
Another blast of wintry weather was due Tuesday night and is expected to continue until just before dawn Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service said.
The forecast calls for light freezing rain and possibly some snow, mainly along the North Shore, meteorologist Jay Engle of the weather service's Upton office said Tuesday afternoon. Light rain was predicted for the South Shore, Engle said.
A winter weather advisory issued Tuesday warned that glazed roads "may result in slippery travel conditions" Wednesday morning.
Now, the good news.
The sun will eventually come out Wednesday — and it will bring warmer temperatures, the weather service said.
Let the melting begin: Wednesday's forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 40, according to the NWS websire.
It may still be a bit too soon to consider breaking out the T-shirts and flip-flops, and winter still is very much a thing. Wednesday will also feature 30 mph wind gusts and wind chills of between 25 and 30 degrees.
Thursday and Friday will be sunny with a high of 35, the weather service said.
But it's safe to say Long Island is entering its first wave of warm weather in a long time.
"We sure are," Engle said, "and no more super cold for a while."
