Memorial Day wasn't a complete wash out after all. The weather started to clear late in the day, bringing temperatures in the 70s with more warm weather and a return to dry conditions through at least Wednesday night.
The high Tuesday is forecast to top out at 76 degrees with a mix of sun and clouds. The low Tuesday night will dip to about 59, according to the National Weather Service.
John Murray, a meteorologist at the weather service's Upton office, said Long Island will continue to see dry conditions over the next couple of days.
"We’re drying out; part of a much different weather pattern than what we’ve had over the weekend," Murray said. "The drier trend will continue, along with a warming trend in terms of temperatures over the next two days heading into the middle of this week."
Between Saturday and Monday morning, Murray said, 1 to 2 inches of rain fell across Long Island. Nassau County and western Suffolk notched slightly higher amounts, he added.
For Wednesday, much of Long Island will be in the low to mid-80s, cooler along the coast, under a mix of clouds and sun.
There is a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm on Wednesday night, with a low of 63, the weather service said.
Plenty of sun is in the forecast from Thursday through the weekend. The high Thursday will hit 77 with a nighttime low of 55. Friday's high drops to 71 but the skies will be clear. The low at night will be 54, according to the weather service.
On Saturday and Sunday, the skies will be mostly clear with highs of about 70 and overnight lows in the mid 50s.

While some of Monday's parades and ceremonies were hampered by the rainy weather, one major event — a 9 p.m. Jones Beach drone show — was set to take place as planned.
The show was postponed from Sunday to Monday night because of inclement weather.
Other events across the Island were moved indoors or altered Monday. In Mastic Beach, Michael Javitz, first vice president of American Legion Post 1533, said the post's Memorial Day parade would go on, though perhaps with changes.
"We're doing it, rain or shine, but if it stays raining, we're not going to have anyone walking, just people in vehicles," he said
A spokeswoman for the Suffolk Department of Health Services said an advisory issued against bathing at 63 beaches was expected to be lifted Tuesday afternoon. The advisory was issued over concern that bacteria levels in the water exceeded New York State standards.
A spokeswoman for Nassau County said their advisory was to be lifted at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
