Joy Mangano's Nissequogue home set for auction in July

Joy Mangano's home in Nissequogue is filled not only with her own personal interior design touches and renovations, but also cherished family memories from her 25 years of residence.
Her son's 30th birthday party: "People were still here at 6 o'clock in the morning, swimming in the pool," Mangano told Newsday. "And not just 30-year-olds, it was my friends, too!"
And another picture-perfect summer night, surrounded by generations of loved ones.
"I was sitting on the deck by the tennis court," the Miracle Mop inventor remembered. "There's a rolling green, beautiful hill in the back ... My grandchildren were playing ball, the adults were playing bocce, and it was like a Norman Rockwell scene: Everybody that I love was just there, being happy."
Her beloved home is now ready for its next life. The 9-acre estate will be up for auction in July via Concierge Auctions, in partnership with Kyle Roskot, of The Agency. Bids are anticipated to start between $4 million and $7 million, according to a news release by the auction house.
Known as Swan Manor, the estate was first listed in 2022 for $20 million. It was relisted in March for $14 million.
The property includes three structures: The main house, guesthouse (a converted barn) and a four-car detached garage with an extra living space. The taxes were listed as $89,960 in March.
Mangano purchased the home in 2000. She grew up in the Huntington area, eventually raising her children in East Meadow before purchasing this home.

"When I was looking for a home here, I pulled up to this house and it was so magical," Mangano said. "And I've been to a lot of celebrity homes, from the Hamptons to Europe, but this was so special."
Mangano was with her mother when she saw the home for the first time. "At the time, it wasn't the way it is now," she said. "I spent a lot of years and redid probably everything, ultimately."
Mangano, an entrepreneur and author, is the mastermind behind the Miracle Mop and other inventions. She is also the founder and CEO of CleanBoss, which sells disinfectants, cleaners and laundry products. Mangano's life inspired the 2015 film "Joy," in which Jennifer Lawrence portrayed the inventor and earned her fourth Academy Award nomination.
In total, Mangano's home contains 14 bedrooms and 15 bathrooms, spanning 22,000 square feet. Standout rooms include a sun-drenched indoor pool area, sauna, gym, massage room and a wine cellar with a tasting room. There is also a tennis court and stone waterfall on site: "It's such an indoor-outdoor oasis," Roskot told Newsday in April.

From the time Mangano was young, she dreamed of having a big home with a big family to share it with, she said. This house "wasn't to have for any reason other than to fit my entire family," she added, which now includes three children, their spouses and eight grandchildren.
And with such a large property size, Mangano is "most proud" of the way she turned the sprawling estate into a warm, family home through the years.
"Yes I'm a cleaning fanatic: 14 bedrooms, 15 bathrooms, I know every little thing if it's out of place," she said. "But what I did is, since it's such a flowing home and it just goes on and on, I think my goal was to make it feel like one home."
According to the release, the auction is scheduled to kick off July 22 on Concierge Auctions' online marketplace. It will conclude on July 25.

A musical based on Mangano's life, called "JOY: A New True Musical," is now in previews off-Broadway and will open on July 20 at the Laura Pels Theatre, at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre. Mangano has sat in on rehearsals but has yet to see it on stage, she said.
"We've been getting standing ovations every night, I've heard," she said. "So I'm letting them do their thing ... I'm going to go very soon."
As for whether Mangano plans to stay on Long Island after the sale of her home, "I'm not sure yet," she said. "How do you like that for reinventing yourself, right?"
