ANAHEIM, Calif. — Technically, the Angels beat the Mets in extra innings, but it’s possible the run that cost them came in the first.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the 10th inning, Oswald Peraza singled off Austin Warren as the Angels defeated the Mets, 4-3, at Angels Stadium on Saturday night. Warren had loaded the bases with none out but almost got out of it with a shallow flyout and a pop-up.

The Angels scored their first run in the first, but not with merit. With runners on first and second and two outs, Jo Adell singled, chasing Nolan Schanuel home as the trailing runner, Jorge Soler, attempted to take third base. Soler was tagged out — apparently before Schanuel crossed home plate, which would have nullified the run — but Carlos Mendoza didn’t challenge the play and the run stayed on the board.

"We missed it," Mendoza said of the challenge.

The Mets got that back in the third on Bo Bichette’s RBI single, but the Angels tacked on two more against Nolan McLean in the fourth. McLean allowed three runs, six hits and a walk with six strikeouts in four innings.

With the Mets down 3-1 in the seventh, Mark Vientos doubled into the leftfield corner and Marcus Semien singled to right. Andy Ibanez lifted a sacrifice fly and Tyrone Taylor singled to center to tie it.
