Red Sox WEEI radio announcer Will Flemming apologizes for ripping Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr.

A Boston Red Sox radio announcer who made critical comments about Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. apologized on Monday on X.

Among other things, WEEI announcer Will Flemming said a Red Sox pitcher should “fight Chisholm on the field” and/or “drill” Yankees batter Austin Wells because Chisholm stole second and third bases in the eighth inning of the Yankees’ eventual 16-1 win over Boston in the Bronx on Sunday.

The Yankees led 7-1 at the time. Wells homered and Chisholm trotted home very slowly, which apparently also raised Flemming’s ire.

Flemming, who also called Chisholm a “bush league player” and said “he plays the game the wrong way,” wrote on social media on Monday: “Since I have been receiving nonstop calls and threats, I felt like it was important to hop back on here and say: My comments during yesterday’s broadcast crossed a line. I’m emotional and a fan at heart and that bled into the broadcast. I meant no disrespect to the Yankees players or organization. I could and should have used different words. These rivalry games get me fired up; I apologize for letting the emotion of the moment get the best of me.”

The Yankees are in Anaheim, California, where they will take on the Angels on Monday night.
