Yankees first baseman Ben Rice exited Sunday's game against the Orioles in the Bronx after the third inning with what the team said is a left hand contusion.
X-rays came back negative, and the team said Rice is day-to-day. Manager Aaron Boone said after the game — an 11-3 win — that Rice "felt a little bit better already" but added that "it's possible" he could miss a game or two.
"We'll see how he's doing tomorrow and make the call," Boone said.
Rice hit his 12th home run of the season in the first inning and doubled in the bottom of the third after apparently suffering the injury in the top of the third on a pickoff throw from starter Max Fried.
Paul Goldschmidt replaced Rice at first base to start the fourth inning.
